Sweet and Spicy Salmon

How to Cook Sweet and Spicy Salmon

If you love sweet and spicy flavors, this spicy salmon recipe is going to be your new favorite dish! Not only does it combine savory and sweet, but it also combines light and crispy with hearty and filling, making it the perfect meal to prepare at the beginning of the week and eat all week long. If you’re looking for something that’s not only healthy but also quick to prepare, this sweet and spicy salmon recipe fits the bill perfectly!

Step 1: Get the ingredients

You’ll need: salmon fillets, garlic, shallots, chili pepper (choose your spice), fresh ginger, honey. Cook these together in a pan. The salmon will take about 10 minutes per side on medium heat until fully cooked. Keep an eye on it so that you don’t burn it or overcook it as you don’t want your salmon dry. You could also go for a nice marinade if you wanted to jazz up your dish with some sweet and spicy flavors (we won’t judge).

Step 2: Prep your salmon

Brine your salmon fillets in a mixture of 1 cup of coconut aminos, 1 tbsp of sriracha sauce, 1 tsp of Chinese five-spice powder, 1 tsp paprika and 1⁄4 cup raw honey for 30 minutes. The salmon will take on a sweet-and-spicy flavor thanks to all that heat. After marinating for 30 minutes at room temperature, pat each piece dry with paper towels before cooking.

Step 3: Mix everything together

Next, add 1/4 cup of butter, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, apple cider vinegar and garlic salt into a small saucepan. Stir it over medium heat until melted together. This is your sweet-and-spicy glaze. Once everything is melted together place your salmon fillets in a baking dish (or glass casserole dish). Coat each fillet evenly with glaze.

Step 4: Cook

Now that you’ve slathered your salmon in sauce, it’s time to put it in a skillet. Over medium-high heat, add enough canola oil or ghee to coat bottom of pan (be sure you have a lid for pan!). Allow oil/ghee to heat up for 1 minute before adding salmon filet. Cover with lid immediately so fish cooks evenly on all sides. While salmon is cooking, prepare your veggies (Step 3). When oil begins to shimmer on top of each side of fish, flip over using spatula. If using fresh ginger, grate over hot salmon now while keeping flame at medium-high heat.

Step 5: Enjoy

After you’ve created your recipe, try it out on family or friends. Keep in mind that most people won’t care if it’s a bit unorthodox—they just want something that tastes good. If they like it, publish your recipe online! You can even add photos of what your dish should look like when it comes out of the oven or off of a grill.
