How to Make Degi Beef Briyani
There are hundreds of varieties of rice in the world, but when it comes to rice as an Indian dish, the only name you’ll hear more than any other is basmati. Ingredients
· 1 pound beef · 1⁄2 cup rice, uncooked · 1⁄4 cup butter or oil · 2 teaspoons salt or to taste. • 4 cups water or beef broth for cooking rice. Instructions: Cut about a pound of meat into bite-sized pieces and marinate with 1 teaspoon salt, pepper and any herbs and spices you like. Heat oil in a large pan on medium heat. Add meat and brown on all sides (may need to do in batches). Remove meat from pan (leave any fat behind) Place rice in bottom of your pot if using a pressure cooker; otherwise place rice directly in your pan.
Preparation
1 kg. of Degi beef (half-fat) and 1 kg. of fresh cooked rice, two pieces of cinnamon sticks, two cloves and a little green cardamom powder are all you need for preparing delicious Degi beef briyani. Cooking Instructions
There are many steps in making Degi beef briyani, but it’s not hard if you take your time. Start by chopping onions, and other ingredients. Add oil to a deep pan and start cooking while add red rice into it and follow with cooking tomatoes, cinnamon sticks, cardamom, cumin seeds, garlic cloves and ginger until they start smelling good. Add onion to that mixture of spices and mix them together so they become soft. Once you’ve added beef or chicken into it then add salt at first then water once boil over medium heat for about 30 minutes or an hour according to taste plus add in tomato paste until its colored red then let it cook another 20 minutes; let spices stew. Then add green chilies and lime juice later.
Tips
Cook in a deep heavy-based pot or use a pressure cooker. After cooking has finished, remove beef to cutting board and cut into 1 chunks (set aside).
