Ingredients

Oats – 3 cups Urad dal – 1/2 cup Rice flour – 1/2 cup Chopped Coriander leaves - a handful Oil as needed Salt to taste Lemon juice as needed Water to grind Seasoning: Mustard seeds – 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon Asafoetida powder - a pinch Curry leaves few Roasted Bengal gram dal or roasted chana dal – 2 teaspoons Chopped onions (optional) - 2 tablespoons Chopped coriander leaves (optional) - 2 tablespoons Coconut grated, finely chopped green chillies, cilantro and fresh lime juice as garnishing. Method: Wash and soak oats in water for 6-8 hours. Pressure cook it with water.

Equipment Needed

Non-stick Tawa, Panchamirtham (White Mineral Water), Sattu or Atta. To make a good oatmeal dosa we have to have a non-stick tawa and panchamirtham. Without these things, you can’t expect to make tasty oats dosas every time. If you don’t have a non-stick tawa and panchamirtham, it will be quite hard for you to make crisp dosas every time. Hence I strongly recommend that always use a non-stick tawa and panchamirtham for making an oats dosa to get an amazing taste of your dish each time.

Procedure

Wash and soak 1 cup of oats in water for 2 hours. Grind to a fine paste along with 1⁄2 cup of urad dal and 3 red chillies, adding just enough water to make it a thick paste. Boil 2 cups of water in a pan, then add salt and bring to a boil again. Spread an even layer of batter over hot oiled tawa (griddle), ensuring that you don’t spread too much or else it may get dry while cooking, which would mean there’s not enough moisture left to cook it evenly when you flip it over. Drizzle one teaspoon of ghee around its edges on top so that it doesn’t dry out while frying.

FAQ

Q. Can I make oatmeal in my microwave? A. Yes, but don’t expect it to be as easy as popping a bag of cornflakes into your toaster. While there are recipes that call for microwaving oats, you’ll have a much easier time cooking them on top of the stove—and you can mix them with other ingredients like cinnamon or dried fruit to add more flavor and texture. If you have milk (cow’s milk works well), start by heating it over medium heat in a saucepan until bubbles appear around its edges and small steam holes form on top; about five minutes.
