What is a rava idly?
An idli (also spelt idly) is a traditional breakfast dish from South India, popular throughout India and neighbouring countries. It consists of steamed fermented rice cake or batter with curry or vegetable stuffing in it. It is eaten plain with chutney and sambar, or dipped in ghee (clarified butter). Though normally made using only rice flour and water, there are variants which use ragi (finger millet), sooji (semolina), pongal kurma etc. The fermentation process increases their nutritive value as well as allows for preservation without refrigeration. It is a soft food made by soaking pulse/rice overnight and then grinding it into batter, adding water to it and fermenting it overnight before cooking.

How to serve
Spread a handful of freshly washed rava into a plate. Pour boiling water over it. Cover and let it sit for at least 20 minutes. Stir in some ghee or butter and served hot with your favorite chutney. Enjoy!
